Giovanni Domenico Roccamora, an abbot, a scholar and an essayist of philosophy and theology. His activity throughout the fiefdom of Nardò was not able for his marked dedication in the motion of 1647 against the tyrannies of the ferocious Giovan Girolamo Acquaviva, Count of Conversano and Duke of Nardò, known with the name of Guercio di Puglia. Roccamora sided with the peasants who rose up to take back the usurped land; he was hanged, and his head was exposed for 40 days in the seat of the central square of Nardò.
